Today, few areas of our business and personal lives remain untouched by the digital revolution. Over 92% of adults in the West Midlands use the internet1, while only 1.9% of small businesses in the West Midlands have no internet access 2. And with over 65% of small businesses using some form of cloud computing3, our society is now almost entirely dependent on the continued availability, accuracy and confidentiality of digital data.
Despite the technology’s obvious benefits, including the capability to work remotely, the information generated and reliance on connected technology also makes businesses a target to criminals and hackers.
The introduction of GDPR has gone some way to improve general cybersecurity, however, we can expect to see more regulation and legislation as our businesses and society becomes more connected and reliant upon digitalisation and IOT.

Investing in cybersecurity will considerably reduce the impact of cyber crime to your business. However, cybersecurity can be complex. It is one of the less understood areas of business, typically shrouded in mystery. This is where we step in.
We have created two security packs to keep cybersecurity simple. The core and enhanced packs bring together the essential and proportionate defences a small or medium sized business needs.
There is no single defence for cybersecurity - having anti-virus or a Firewall is not sufficient today. Cyber criminals can target your business in multiple ways. Because of this, a multi-layered approach is needed. There is essentially a different tool for tackling each threat. This means you need a variety of defences all working at the same time in order to be secure.
This is why we have packaged our managed cybersecurity service into the 'core' and 'enhanced' security packs. Both packs contain multiple defences that are practical, affordable, feasible and essential for a small business.
Choose from our one of our security packages. The core pack is included in our IT support, with the option to upgrade to Enhanced for further protection. Both packages are:
Essential security controls for all businesses. This is the minimal protection we recommend. Core package is automatically implemented to all Superfast IT Support clients.
Choose to add further protection and peace of mind with the Enhanced Security Package. Recommended for businesses working in high risk industries, including: those industries experiencing frequent cyber-attacks, as well as businesses that hold large amounts of sensitive or personal data or are part of OEM/defence and public sector supply chains.
While technology differs from industry to industry and from company to company, our security packs can be used by any industry. The defences can be applied to your business' individual IT network and data-set. We will map out your IT and conduct a risk assessment to ensure that any unique business requirements are met, for example, security audits for ISO compliance.
Businesses, big and small, in Birmingham and the West Midlands fall victim to cybercrime. UK Government stats suggest that 40% of businesses had cybersecurity breaches or attacks in the last 12 months, yet only 35% of businesses are deploying security monitoring tools, meaning it's likely that many businesses are simply unaware that they've been breached4. It takes on average 56 days to detect a cyber breach5, enabling cyber criminals to steal substantial amounts of information.
*Reported cost of cyber crime to the West Midlands Police, covers computer virus/malware/spyware, denial of service attack and extortion, hacking on servers, social media, email and telecoms.
Adopting a security packages and gaining Cyber Essentials Accreditation service offers many advantages. You will have assurance that your data is backed-up. We are frequently asked: how do we back-up your data, which James explains in the video.
The advantages extend much further, providing peace of mind that you are prepared for future threats and offer a competitive advantage to prospects demonstrating that you will keep their data secure:
Four back-up copies of your data and back-up copies for Microsoft Teams, Outlook 365 and OneDrive.
Protect your ideas, designs, product specifications, trade secrets, process information and methodologies from being stolen or taken for ransom. Maintain your competitive, operational and technological advantage.
Protect against the worst case scenario, mitigate future threats. Have the mechanisms and supporting organisations in place to respond to an attack to keep your business moving and productivity levels up.
Cyber insurance will pay out because you have sufficient cyber controls in place. Insurance rates are often lower too.
